As there are growing concerns for health care solutions, now is a great time to look at the benefits of UV air sanitation, and its applications to the homeowner or building owner. Gustave A. Larson has a wide range of indoor air quality solutions to keep your home and business healthier, and protect you and your family.

What is the Swine Flu?

The new Swine Flu cases are caused by an influenza strain called H1N1, which appears to be easily passed from person to person. The most common method of transmission is airborne, and it is also possible to become infected by touching a surface with the virus on it and then touching one's mouth or nose. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is advising people to wash their hands frequently, and also to avoid surfaces that might be contaminated. The Swine Flu has similar symptoms to regular influenza: body aches, fever, headache, sore throat, nasal stuffiness, and cough.

Federal officials said it would take until January, or late November at the earliest, to make enough vaccine to protect all Americans from the Swine Flu. In the meantime, homeowners can turn to UV  and air filtration products to greatly reduce their risk of contracting viruses, bacterial contaminations, and other VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

What can the homeowner do to stay protected?

With our various lines of UV air sanitation and air filtration products, the Gustave A. Larson Company offers indoor air quality solutions to help destroy viruses such as influenza. Swine Flu is said to be a type “A” Orthomyxoviridae, which Sanuvox Technologies, RGF Environmental as well as Trane and American Standard have done extensive third party testing on. Though tests were never specifically designed for Swine Flu, as this is a new string of influenza, they are confident that UV and Air Filtration products will help destroy or filter the airborne biological contaminants including influenza.  The current recommended treatment for Swine Flu is the same antiviral drugs (Oseltamivir (trade name TamiFlu) and Zanamivir) used to treat outbreaks of Seasonal Human Flu and Avian Flu.  So currently, all signs point to it being very similar in many ways, making these existing test results appear even more relevant.
