In
the October 2001 issue of Milwaukee Magazine, the Gustave Larson Company
was named one of the ten best companies to work for in Wisconsin.
Citing the Larson Company’s sensitivity to each individual’s personal
needs coupled with big business discipline and tools, the Milwaukee Magazine
survey rated the Gustave A. Larson Company as second of the top 10 places to
work in Wisconsin. The Larson Company, founded in 1936 and celebrating its 65th
Anniversary, is a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment
distributor with 24 locations serving 9 Midwestern state and employing almost
250 employees.
The
Milwaukee Magazine partnered with MRA: The Management Association Inc., a
100-year-old employer association with 2,200 members firms in Wisconsin and
northern Illinois, and together designed a survey to question companies about
their management practices and procedures, including pay and benefits,
opportunity for advancement, workplace culture, work-life balance and more.
From the initial responses, high-scoring companies were asked to supply
random employee lists from which 10 employees were selected from each for a
follow-up telephone survey. Companies
were divided by large companies with 500+ employees and mid-sized companies with
101-499 employees.
The
Larson company began as a small storefront in Madison, Wis.
Each branch carries an extensive inventory of equipment and replacement
parts to serve customer’s needs. The
Larson Company maintains a $25 million inventory and an in-house truck fleet
that replenishes the branches nightly. A
state-of-the-art computer system links all 24 locations with the Corporation
Offices and Distribution Center in Pewaukee, WI.
