Programmer Analyst

Job Description

Summary

Under the direction of the IT Manager, this individual will work in an integrated computer network environment. An employee in this classification performs a full range of programming and analytical functions requiring a technical computer background. Responsibilities include code, test and debug computer programs, modify existing programs, write and maintain user documentation.

Primary Responsibilities

Analyze user specifications and requirements. Test and debug computer programs. Modify existing programs to conform to system changes or to make improvements in existing programs on moderately complex projects. May assist the Sr. Programmer/Analyst on large, complex projects. Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.

Duties

This list is representative, but not exhaustive and should be considered a guide to successful execution:

  • Uses programming languages to code computer instructions from the systems documentation. Utilizes any special programming techniques necessary to achieve the most effective program.
  • Tests and debugs computer programs.
  • Modifies existing programs to conform to system changes or to make improvements in the existing program.
  • Works with user departments to resolve specific problems or make changes in programs, computer applications, capabilities, alternative programming approaches, limitations, etc.
  • Trains personnel in user departments in any specific procedures necessary to enter data into terminals for computer processing.
  • Writes and maintains documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.
  • Maintains relationships with other departments and agencies.

  • Knowledge of iSeries systems.
  • Knowledge of RPG, RPGILE, CL, OS400, DB2.
  • Ability to encode, test and debug application programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical computer problems.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Desire to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Team player.
  • Able to think independently
  • Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion may be required.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in the field and/or degree/certification in Information Technology field at a technical school.

Other Skills and Abilities

Systems analysis skills and business data processing applications would be favorable. Professionalism, accuracy and timeliness are very important to this position, as well as being able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range

$55,000 - $60,000 (commensurate with experience)
