Counter Sales Representative

Job Description

Summary

The Counter Sales Representative reports directly to the Store Manager.  Hours are generally from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.  Hours vary from CSR to CSR and from branch to branch.  The goal is to ensure customer service and appropriate coverage in each location.  Overtime is a routine part of this position.  In addition, each CSR will take turns carrying a pager each evening and week-end to respond to emergency customer needs.

Primary Responsibilities

A counter sales representative sells parts, accessories, materials, supplies, and chemicals, as well as tools and equipment to customers such as dealers, contractors, service firms and industrial accounts who visit the branch.  The CSR also takes orders over the phone or fax, recommends and advises customers regarding their needs, puts away stock, maintains inventory control, prepares items for shipping, completes paperwork for warranties.

Duties
  • Greets customers courteously, determines their needs using technical knowledge and manufacturers’ catalogs; ascertains proper price classifications, extends prices from information within company computer system, prepares sales invoices by correctly entering data.

  • Takes telephone and fax orders, makes recommendations and suggestions of substitute or related items

  • May accept cash, make change, obtain signature for billing purposes.

  • Stocks shelves, maintains good housekeeping, keeping store area neat and orderly.

  • Load merchandise into cars or trucks to assist customer.

  • Accepts returns goods for credit.  Completes warranty paperwork as directed by Warranty Department.

  • Assist in effectively displaying equipment and products.

  • Attend branch meetings, technical training sessions and general company meetings, as requested.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum two years of experience in the field and/or degree/certification in the HVACR field at a technical school.  Must be well versed in the HVACR industry.  Must be skilled in verbal and written communication.

Other Skills and Abilities

Professionalism, accuracy and timeliness are very important to this position, as well as being able to prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment.  Ability to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
